WELCOME to the official website of the Los Angeles Koyasan Betsuin, headquarters of the Koyasan Shingon Mission to the mainland United States. This website was developed to help promote the mission of the Koyasan Betsuin. By providing an introduction to Shingon Buddhism and a glimpse of the Temple activities and events, we hope that you will find this site a valuable resource and window to the religion established by Kobo-Daishi (Kukai) and to the culture and traditions of Koyasan.

The website is divided into six major sections:

§ Temple and History
v  A brief outline introduces you to the Los Angeles Koyasan Betsuin.
v  The page steps through the Temple’s history from the time of our founder, Reverend Shutai Aoyama, to the present. A photo gallery is under construction and will soon be available.

§ Calendar, Services and Events
v  Calendar lists the Temple services (as Hoshi Matsuri, Ohigan, Hanamatsuri, and Obon), and activities. Because of schedule changes, please check the page for the latest dates and times.
v  Information is provided on the various services conducted at the Temple.
v Upcoming and past events for the year are listed. Community events are also listed for our interested viewers. Temple announcements and news are posted on this page.

§ People and Organizations
v  This page acquaints you with the ministers and people, who helped establish, shape, and direct the Temple’s mission.
v The following organizations play integral roles in the Temple’s program: ABA (Adult Buddhist Association), YABA (Young Buddhist Association), Fujin-Kai (Women’s Association), Eiyu-Kai (Advance and Intermediate Goeika), Daishi-ko, and Harbor City Koyasan Buddhist Church. Information and activities of the organizations are posted on this page.
v The Koyasan Scout Troop 379 site provides a look into the program for its Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Cub Scouts. The family troop is hosted by the Temple.
v  The Los Angeles Koyasan Taiko Group site is in development. Currently the group is not accepting any new members until a instructor can be found.

§ Studies
v  The basic teachings of Shingon Buddhism are introduced. We hope that this page will provide you answers to some of the questions regarding Buddhism in general.
v  The section, “Sunday School”, provides a religious lesson that will be updated monthly. The lessons are from the English translations of “The Teaching of the Shingon-Shu” published by the Koyasan Headquarter Propagation Division.
v  Upcoming topics and discussion outlines are posted for the English Buddhist Study Group that meets every other Saturday at the Temple. Seminars for the Japanese Buddhist Study Group will be announced on this site.
v  The previous lessons and phrase of the month are posted for the Japanese Language & Culture Study Group that meets every Saturday at the Temple. Special cultural presentations will be announced on this page.

§ Shikoku Pilgrimage
v  With the guidance of Bishop Emeritus Taisen Miyata, we will take you on a journey in the footsteps of Kobo-Daishi on a circuit of the Shikoku Island and to Mount Koya. This section has not yet been developed; but please check the page, as features will be added in time.
v  “A Henro Pilgrimage Guide to the 88 Temples of Shikoku Island, Japan”   is available for purchase at the Los Angeles Koyasan Betsuin.

§ Newsletter, Website and Links
v  JIHO, is published quarterly providing news on the latest and upcoming events of the Los Angeles Koyasan Betsuin, and articles written by the Temple’s ministers.
v  The Los Angeles Koyasan Betsuin website is for informational purposes only. For questions on the religious contents and information regarding the Temple, please direct them to rskoyasan@yahoo.com.
