WELCOME to the official
website of the Los Angeles Koyasan Betsuin, headquarters of the Koyasan
Shingon Mission to the mainland United States. This website was developed
to help promote the mission of the Koyasan Betsuin. By providing an
introduction to Shingon Buddhism and a glimpse of the Temple
activities and events, we hope that you will find this site a valuable
resource and window to the religion established by Kobo-Daishi (Kukai) and
to the culture and traditions of Koyasan.
The
website is divided into six major sections:

Temple and History
v  A brief outline introduces you to
the Los Angeles Koyasan Betsuin.
v  The page steps through the
Temple’s history from the time of our founder, Reverend Shutai Aoyama,
to the present. A photo gallery is under construction and will soon
be available.
§
Calendar, Services and Events
v  Calendar lists the Temple
services (as Hoshi Matsuri, Ohigan, Hanamatsuri, and Obon), and
activities. Because of schedule changes, please check the page for the
latest dates and times.
v  Information is provided on the various
services conducted at the Temple.
v Upcoming and past events for the year
are listed. Community events are also listed for our interested viewers.
Temple announcements and news are posted on this page.

People and Organizations
v  This page acquaints you with the
ministers and people, who helped establish, shape, and direct the Temple’s
mission.
v The following organizations play
integral roles in the Temple’s program: ABA (Adult Buddhist Association), YABA
(Young Buddhist Association), Fujin-Kai (Women’s Association), Eiyu-Kai
(Advance and Intermediate Goeika), Daishi-ko, and Harbor City Koyasan Buddhist
Church. Information and activities of the organizations are posted on
this page.
v The Koyasan Scout Troop 379 site
provides a look into the program for its Boy Scouts, Girl
Scouts, and Cub Scouts. The family troop is hosted by the
Temple.
v  The Los Angeles Koyasan Taiko
Group site is in development. Currently the group is not accepting any
new members until a instructor can be found.

Studies
v  The basic teachings of Shingon Buddhism
are introduced. We hope that this page will provide you answers
to some of the questions regarding Buddhism in general.
v  The section,
“Sunday School”, provides a religious lesson that will be updated monthly.
The lessons are from the English translations of “The Teaching of the
Shingon-Shu” published by the Koyasan Headquarter Propagation Division.
v  Upcoming topics and discussion
outlines are posted for the English Buddhist Study Group that meets
every other Saturday at the Temple. Seminars
for the Japanese Buddhist Study Group will be announced on this site.
v  The previous lessons and phrase of
the month are posted for the Japanese Language & Culture Study Group
that meets every Saturday at the Temple. Special
cultural presentations will be announced on this page.

Shikoku Pilgrimage
v  With the guidance
of Bishop Emeritus Taisen Miyata, we will take you on
a journey in the footsteps of Kobo-Daishi on a circuit of the Shikoku Island
and to Mount Koya. This section has not yet been developed; but please check
the page, as features will be added in time.
v  “A Henro Pilgrimage Guide to the 88
Temples of Shikoku Island, Japan”   is
available for purchase at the Los Angeles Koyasan Betsuin.

Newsletter, Website and Links
v  JIHO, is published
quarterly providing news on the latest and upcoming events of the Los Angeles
Koyasan Betsuin, and articles written by the Temple’s ministers.
v  The Los Angeles Koyasan Betsuin website
