Upcoming Events |
§
November 17th, 10:00
am:
Head of the Foreign Mission of Koyasan, Japan and delegates will be visiting the Temple.
Following a service, a Goeika performance will presented by the visitors. §
November 18th, 1:30
pm:
Shichi-Go-San Service will be held with special prayers for children. Fee is
$25.00. Contact the Temple to register. See Services. §
December 2nd, 10:00 am: Bodhi Day Service
will be held to commemorate when the day when Siddhartha Gotama became
Buddha. §
December 9th, 9:00 am: Year-End Temple Clean-up will be done to prepare for 2008. §
December 31st, 4:00
pm: Year
End Service will be held to express gratitude to Lord Buddha and Kobo Daishi
and to close 2007 with the ringing of the Temple bell. |

§
The
rubber tree planted at the time
when the Koyasan Betsuin was located at Central Avenue has been nominated to
become a Los Angeles City Landmark. §
Meditation and
Buddhist Study classes will be held in conjunction with Family service on the
last Sunday of the month. §
Taiko class will be held every
Friday evening, 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm.

Past Events |
§ October 5, 6:00 pm: First Los
Angeles Koyasan Taiko beginning class commenced. § September 9th: Koyasan Annual Fundraiser was held. See Letter of Thanks. § August 19, 10:00 am: Mizuko Jizo Bon and Okuribi Services
were
held in the Temple courtyard. Special tributes were presented to thank the guardians of children
and infants. The Okuribi ritual involved the burning of Obon memorial tables
and old omamori’s. § August 5, 10:30 am: Memorial Services for Hiroshima and
Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Victims was held with prayers for world peace. The
service is co-sponsored by the American Society of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
Atomic Survivors (ASA). The Temple has been preserving the Hiroshima Peace Flame
brought to Los Angeles since 1984. § August 4-11: LABCC Summer Camp provided children a
fun and exciting week in the beautiful San Bernardino National
Forest, and an opportunity to learn how Buddhist teachings and principles apply to their everyday life. See http:// www.labcc.org
. § July 15, 1:30 pm: Obon Segaki Service was held with prayers
made in the memory of loved ones and candle lights offered by Hatsubon
families. Somen was served to the congregation. § June 10, 1:30 pm: Aoba Matsuri Service honoring the 1234th
birthday of Kobo-Daishi was held. Green and white manju were offered to the
congregation as okumotsu. § May 20, 4:30 pm: Bishop Emeritus Taisen Miyata, the 7th Shukan of
Los Angeles Koyasan Betsuin Temple retired this spring after a 49 year
mission since 1959. A banquet honoring his retirement was held at Empress Harbor
Seafood Restaurant in Monterey Park. § May 13, 8:00 am:
Harbor City
Koyasan held its annual Mother’s Day Breakfast at Torrance
King’s Hawaiian. Family Service followed at the Church. § April 22, 2:30 pm: Succession
Rites (Shinzan-shiki) of Bishop Seicho Asahi was conducted after
Shomie-Ku Service. Oseiki-han was offered to the congregation as okumotsu. § April 8, 11:00 am: Mrs. K. Yanagisawa (Fujin-Kai President)
and Mr. K. Ito (First Vice President) represented Koyasan at the LABCF Hanamatsuri Service. § March 23 –
April 6: Shikoku Pilgrimage of 88 Temples was led by Reverend Seicho
Asahi § March 18, 2:30 pm: Memorial Service for Bishop Chiko
Inouye,
6th Shukan, was held after Spring Ohigan Service. § March 11, 11:00 am: YABA Annual Get-Together was held at Oiwake
Restaurant. |

was honored as 2007 Nisei Week Pioneer §
Prayers
were held for the Old Pine Tree
that was in the temple yard since the 1940’s and chopped down in July. A new
tree has been donated and planted. §
Kitchen renovation was completed before
Obon. Thank you to all who have
contributed donations to the project. § July 7th: Marriage ceremony of Reverend Shinyu Sato
and Ms. Hiroko Yuhara was held. § March 31: Mr. Leonard Narumi was honored with the
“Teachers Making the Difference Award” at the Cherry Blossom Festival in Little Tokyo |
