NEW! Mindfulness Meditation
A Four-Week Introduction to Buddhist Meditation

Join us for a four-week introductory course in mindfulness meditation taught by Rev. Chikyō Paris.
Designed for beginners and those seeking to establish a regular meditation practice, this course introduces the Buddhist methods of Śamatha (calm abiding) and Vipassanā (insight) through guided sitting meditation, walking meditation, breath awareness, and practical mindfulness instruction. Participants will learn how to cultivate greater calmness, concentration, awareness, and compassion while developing a sustainable meditation practice for daily life. No prior experience is necessary. Course Dates: Saturdays at 9:00 a.m. ・July 11, 2026 ・July 18, 2026 ・July 25, 2026 ・August 1, 2026 Location: Daishidō (Upstairs) Koyasan Beikoku Betsuin of Los Angeles 342 E. 1st Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012 Course Fee: Member:$25 Non-Members: $50 About the Instructor: Rev. Chikyō Paris is an Assistant Minister in the Koyasan Shingon tradition and is completing his final year of graduate studies in Chaplaincy. Obon Memorial Service / Okuribi Service

Okuribi Service: Sunday, July 19 at 10AM Dockweiler Beach The Obon season has arrived once again! Obon is a sacred time when our ancestors are believed to temporarily return to this world. We warmly invite you to welcome your ancestors and offer prayers and memorial services with heartfelt gratitude and sincerity. As in previous years, Koyasan Buddhist Temple will also accept applications for the special memorial offering known as Kyogi (wooden memorial tablets). Following the service, we will serve complimentary somen noodles, a yearly tradition. Okuribi Service: We will hold the Okuribi (Bonfire Memorial) Service on Sunday, July 19, at 10:00 AM at Dockweiler Beach. Those who have submitted memorial wooden tablets (kyōgi) are warmly encouraged to attend. If you are unable to participate, please bring your kyōgi to the temple by the day before the service. We will respectfully offer them in the sacred fire during the ceremony and dedicate prayers on your behalf. Kobo Daishi Birthday Celebration Service (Aoba Matsuri)

Sunday, June 14 at 1:30 PM
On Sunday, June 14 at 1:30 PM, we will hold the “Aoba Matsuri” service celebrating the birth of Kobo Daishi (Kukai). During the service, a sacred thread will be extended from the five-pronged vajra (gokosho) held in the right hand of Kobo Daishi, who is enshrined in the inner sanctuary of the main hall. The thread and a protective amulet will then be given to participants. In addition, we will offer a special “Hyakumi no Gozen” (“Hundred Delicacies Offering”) consisting of a wide variety of food offerings as an expression of our gratitude and devotion to Kobo Daishi. The word “Hyakumi” means “countless” or “delicious offerings,” and this tradition has long been practiced at Koyasan as an offering to Kobo Daishi. Kokedama (MossBall) Making Workshop

We will hold a “Kokedama (Moss Ball) Workshop” led by Mr. Takeshi Nakamura of the Torrance flower shop “Angeluck.” Moss is an essential element of traditional Japanese gardens, and cultivating it requires great care and skill. In this workshop, participants will create their own unique kokedama using carefully prepared moss. Mr. Nakamura has taught workshops at USC and Japan House and is well known for his engaging and popular instruction. We warmly invite you to join us for this special experience. Date and Time: Saturday, July 25 | 1:00 PM – approximately 3:00 PM Donation: Members: $55 Non-Members: $45 Registration: - Please submit a registration form by Saturday, July 18. - Advance payment is required. Yoga & Sound Bath Class

Koyasan Buddhist Temple is offering a monthly yoga class led by Reid Yoshimura of Little Tokyo Yoga. Reid will guide you through a gentle yoga practice, followed by a soothing sound bath. We warmly invite you to join us for a relaxing and restorative hour at Koyasan Buddhist Temple.

His style is a well-rounded, heart-centered, meditative flow. When he’s not on the mat, he loves to be outdoors with his son Yogi, a 5-year-old mini schnauzer. |

Koyasan Boy Scout Troop 379 Eagle Scout Recyclables Fundraising

Bring in your aluminum cans and plastic bottles to Koyasan for recycling! The Boy Scouts will take contributed recyclables to a recycling center to help fund their camping needs, fun activities and service projects. The Scouts of Troop 379 appreciate your support.
